Manchester United's confirmation of Ibrahimovic signing made amid City dig at Tevez sign

ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC completed his reunion with old manager Jose Mourinho - as his arrival in Manchester was announced in spectacular fashion.

Jose Mourinho's second signing at Manchester United is Zlatan Ibrahimovic

A huge billboard bearing the slogan “Zlatan, welcome to Manchester” appeared in the city centre hours before United confirmed the Swedish international has signed a one-year contract worth a reported £200,000 a week.

Although United claimed they had nothing to do with its appearance, the billboard was a clear retort to the notorious “Welcome to Manchester” placard that rivals City erected following their signing of Carlos Tevez from Old Trafford in 2009.

Tevez, of course, made a spectacular impact with City, leading the club to their first Premier League title.

And United will hope that Ibrahimovic can be similarly successful as Mourinho attempts to re-ignite the club following three barren years since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ibrahimovic, who jumped the gun on Thursday when he personally announced his agreement to join United, completed the formalities on Friday with a medical and necessary paperwork in Manchester.

“Zlatan needs no introduction,” said Mourinho. “The statistics speak for themselves.

“Ibra is one of the best strikers in the world and a player who always gives 100 per cent. He has won the most important league championships in the world of football, now he has the opportunity to play in the best league in the world and I know he will grasp this opportunity and will work hard to help the team win titles.

“I am certain that his talent will delight fans at Old Trafford next season and that his experience will be invaluable in helping to develop the younger players in the squad.”

The Swede will almost certainly be joined at Old Trafford, possibly within the next 24 hours, by Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan whose £26 million transfer is moving closer.

And, as expected, United are about to confirm that legendary former player Ryan Giggs is to leave their coaching staff after failing to agree a new role on Mourinho’s staff.
