Mustafi has emerged as Arsene Wenger's No 1 defensive target following the injury to fellow German Per Mertesacker.
Mertesacker has been ruled out for at least four months after damaging his knee during the pre-season game against Lens last week.

Sky Sports Germanyclaim the Gunners have now entered into talks with Valencia for Mustafi but are yet to make a formal bid.
His agent Ali Bulut is expected to fly to Spain over the weekend to discuss the transfer fee with Valencia.
The 24-year-old is said to have a £42million release clause but Valencia are reportedly willing to allow him to leave for just £25m plus a further £8m in add-ons.
Mustafi returned for pre-season training yesterday after an extended break following his involvement in the European Championships with Germany.

Wenger admitted last week that he needs to sign another centre-back, despite bringing in Rob Holding for £2m from Bolton.
"With Per being out, we are a bit short on the experience front and we are looking to bring somebody in," Wenger said.
