PSG coach: 'I admire Wenger's work' ahead of Arsenal clash

Arsenal face Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League opener tonight.

Laurent Koscielny looks to have recovered from an eye issue and trained yesterday.

Arsene Wenger said he was alright and should play in Paris.

Wenger’s men will be looking to get off to a better start than last year where they lost their opening two group games to Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos.

Aaron Ramsey also took part in training and could make his first appearance since the opening day.

Olivier Giroud is also expected to make his first start of the season after Lucas Perez made his debut against Southampton.

New deals…

Wenger has revealed Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez will begin talks over new deals with the clubs.

Both players were crucial for the Gunners last year as they leapfrogged Tottenham late on to finish second in the Premier League.

“Ozil and Sanchez, we will start to talk for their extensions,” Wenger said.

No Vardy, no party…

Gary Lineker believes Jamie Vardy would walk into the Arsenal side.

Wenger triggered Vardy’s £20million release clause ahead of Euro 2016 but was snubbed in favour of Leicester.

The England striker took his time to make his decision but eventually signed new terms with the champions.

And Lineker, a Leicester fan, reckons Vardy would have improved the Gunners’s side.

Arsene Wenger discusses Jamie Vardy move

Jamie Vardy: Five things you need to know

Jamie Vardy would have walked into Arsenal’s team and his decision to stay at Leicester was the turning point of the summer.

“Have you seen Arsenal’s centre forwards? They’re fine but they’re not as prolific as Vardy,” Lineker said. “They are not as quick as Vardy and they don’t give you the options the Vardy does.

“Olivier Giroud is a certain kind of target man. He will get his one goal in three or whatever it is. I quite like Lucas Perez but he’s not going to be as prolific as Vardy.

“People have levelled the same criticism against Arsenal as they have done for years. They’re lovely to watch, they’re great on the eye, on their day they’re wonderful, but they can’t always dig out a result, and haven’t necessarily got presence.

“They haven’t got a Sergio Aguero or a Zlatan Ibrahimovic - even a Harry Kane if you like.”

Wenger on the move?

Wenger revealed he has rejected PSG on three occasions.

On the eve of Arsenal’s clash with the French side, Wenger did not dispute PSG’s Nasser Al-Khelaifi, a personal friend of his, had tried repeatedly to persuade him to quit the north Londoners.

But he said out of love and loyalty to the Gunners, he snubbed the Qatari billionaire.

It was widely reported in Wenger’s homeland on Monday that the contact came in 2011, 2012 and 2014.

Wenger was asked about the bids last night and explained why he had not said ‘yes’.

“Because I love where I am,” said the 66-year-old. “I know well the owners but I feel always I remained loyal to Arsenal Football Club because I think it’s a club that has the qualities I love. And that’s why.”
