The midfielder has had a mixed first season in England after his £30m arrival in the summer.

Xhaka went off after 65 minutes in the north London derby last Sunday and will miss this week's clash with Manchester United.

Xhaka has made 23 Premier League starts this term. He has been sent off twice and booked five times.

But Arsene Wenger has Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez back in training although is uncertain if they will be available in time for Sunday.

Arsenal face Manchester United at 4pm as both clubs chase a spot in the top four.

And Wenger has delivered a fitness update for his side.

“Xhaka out, Mustafi is back in normal training,” Wenger said.

“Lucas Perez back in training, but will miss next two days.”

Jose Mourinho has hinted he will play a weakened team because he wants to focus on the Europa League.

Arsenal trail Manchester United by five points with a game in hand.
