Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has already secured the club-record signing of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon.

But he wants continue his spending spree this summer as he looks to kick start a new era at the club after signing a two-year contract extension.

Lemar, 21, is now regarded as Wenger’s No 1 target, but Monaco are playing hardball over a possible exit.

The Ligue 1 champions have apparently slapped an £80million price tag on his head as they look to deter potential suitors.

But the boss is not giving up on trying to sign Lemar despite already having two bids rejected for him.

Lemar, who has a five-year deal on the table and the chance to double his wages, supposedly wants to work with Wenger.

“There are two ways to strengthen the squad,” said Wenger.

“The first is to analyse where we have not done so well and where we can improve together, and the other way is to bring in players from outside.

“We are still open to strengthening our team with players coming from outside.

“We are very active on the transfer market and have already realised two incomings. We have to keep a balance as well, that you don’t destabilise the team too much by bringing in too many players.

“But we are still active on the transfer market so let’s see what kind of opportunities we can find.”
