Manchester United have received fresh hope in the pursuit of Bale.

Real manager Zinedine Zidane wants to sign Kylian Mbappe from Monaco, with Bale tipped to leave to make way for the France international.

But his agent Jonathan Barnett has insisted no move will take place.

"It's a ridiculous, stupid story," he said when asked by the BBC about a move for the 28-year-old.

Barnett helped broker Bale's transfer from Tottenham to Madrid in 2013 for a then-world record £84m deal.

The Wales star won the Champions League in his first year at the club and has gone on to win the competition twice more, while also claiming the La Liga title last term.

Injuries have frustrated the frontman at times and there was a period last season when he was booed by Madrid fans for his performances.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema will not leave Real this summer and Zidane remains keen on Mbappe.

But the boss has reiterated he does not want to sell his three current forwards.

"I want everyone who is here now to stay but anything can happen right up until 31 August," the BBC report Zidane as saying.
