Everton to battle Arsenal and Barcelona for Jean Seri if Gylfi Sigurdsson transfer fails

EVERTON have reportedly entered the race to sign Nice midfielder Jean Seri.

Swansea star Gylfi Sigurdsson's greatest hits

Seri has been heavily linked with a move away from Nice this summer, with a number of Europe’s top clubs said to be interested in the Ivory Coast international.

The 26-year-old bagged seven goals and provided nine assists in 34 Ligue 1 appearances last term as Nice finished third in the table.

And now The Guardian claim Everton have set their sights on Seri as they continue to struggle in negotiations for Swansea playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Everton are said to have had two bids turned down for the 28-year-old - worth £40m and £45m - as Swansea hold out for £50m for their star man.

The Guardian add that Arsenal, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Tottenham are also interested in Seri, with the Gunners said to be in pole position for his signature.

Seri, who has previously been likened to Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante, reportedly has a £35million release clause in his Nice contract.

Everton have wasted no time in bringing in new recruits this summer, spending over £90m on Michael Keane, Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen, Sandro Ramirez and Henry Onyekuru, who has been loaned out to Anderlecht.

The Toffees have also brought in Wayne Rooney and Cuco Martina on free transfers.

But Eveton manager Ronald Koeman admits he wants more signings at Goodison Park before the summer window shuts.

“I don’t speak about names,” Koeman said ahead of Everton’s 1-0 Europa League qualifying win over Slovakian minnows Ruzomberok on Thursday.

“We lost Funes Mori with a knee injury and we’re looking to replace him. We know we lost Romelu Lukaku. We bought Sandro Ramirez and we try to get another striker in, and maybe one more.”
