Nemanja Matic to Man Utd: Chelsea boss Antonio Conte refuses to discuss transfer rumours

CHELSEA boss Antonio Conte has refused to discuss speculation linking Nemanja Matic with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Craig Burley says Nemanja Matic to Man United is a good deal

Jose Mourinho is keen on reuniting with Matic at Manchester United and the Europa League winners appeared close to sealing a deal for Serbian earlier this month.

But United have been unable to agree a fee with Chelsea for the 28-year-old despite the Premier League champions seemingly buying a replacement for the midfielder in Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Matic was left out of Chelsea's tour of Asia as a result of the transfer speculation surrounding him and speaking after a 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan, Conte claimed he knew nothing about the rumours.

I don’t know nothing about this. You have to ask the club

He said: "I don’t know nothing about this. You have to ask the club."

With Bakayoko recovering from a knee injury and Matic omitted from the tour, Conte has paired N'Golo Kante and Cesc Fabregas together in midfield during pre-season.

But the Italian coach has stressed the need for Chelsea to make signings to improve the team.

Antonio Conte didn't want to talk about Nemanja Matic

“We know the next season will be tough and we want to avoid what happened in the previous season for Chelsea, two years ago, when the team finished in 10th place in the Premier League,” Conte said.

“We want to try to avoid this. I want to try to avoid what happened two seasons ago.

“Two coaches have been sacked from Chelsea and Leicester after winning the league and I want to avoid this and the players want to avoid the bad season they had with Mourinho.

“We are working very well and we hope to find the best solution in the future. We have a lot of young players and if necessary we will have to try to play these players.”
