Nemanja Matic to Man Utd: Midfielder expected to make debut against Real Madrid

NEMANJA MATIC is on the verge of becoming a Manchester United player and could make his debut against Real Madrid.

Craig Burley says Nemanja Matic to Man United is a good deal

United have made a breakthrough in their pursuit of Matic by agreeing a fee of around £40million with Chelsea.

United have been trying to sign Matic all summer but their move stalled after they beat Chelsea to land Romelu Lukaku.

But Sky Sports say Chelsea are letting Matic join United as a gesture of goodwill for his contribution to the club.

The 28-year-old won two Premier League titles after returning for his second spell at Stamford Bridge in 2014.

Chelsea would have preferred to sell Matic abroad to Juventus but he wanted to reunite with former boss Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

Nemanja Matic has been left at home to train by Chelsea

And like Petr Cech’s move to Arsenal in 2015, Blues owner Roman Abramovich has allowed one of his players to join a rival.

Matic has been training at Chelsea’s Cobham HQ while Antonio Conte and his squad are on pre-season tour in the Far East.

Conte refused to discuss Matic’s future after Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan yesterday, saying: "I don’t know nothing about this. You have to ask the club."

But Matic is set to become a Manchester United player in the next few days.

And Sky Sports say if all goes to plan he could make his debut against Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup on August 8.
