Antonio Conte: Alvaro Morata must adapt to Chelsea style before Arsenal showdown

ANTONIO CONTE has warned Alvaro Morata to prepare himself quickly for Chelsea's Community Shield showdown against Arsenal.

Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata scores INCREDIBLE goal in training

The Blues are gearing up for their first competitive game of the new season.

And having joined from Real Madrid in a deal worth up to £70million, much is expected of Morata.

The Spain international made his unofficial Chelsea debut last Tuesday in the 3-2 defeat to Bayern Munich, before starting for the first time in the Blues' 2-1 loss to Inter Milan.

Morata featured for more than an hour on Saturday but is yet to get off the mark for his new club.

On Morata breaking his duck for Chelsea, Antonio Conte told the London Evening Standard: “Is it important for him to get that first goal? Yes. But against Inter Milan he didn’t play like a No9 — he played like a No10.

“But it is a necessity for me in this moment to play him there because we don’t have other players.”

When asked if Morata is showing any sign of the strain caused by the fee, Conte replied to the London Evening Standard: “No. We are about to start our season now and Alvaro has only been with us for a few days.

“We didn’t pay a lot for Alvaro — only £50-£60m. If you compare him to others, you can see the difference.

“For sure, he is a good young player, a good prospect for Chelsea. He will try to do his best for Chelsea.

“I am pleased with his commitment, his will and efforts to learn our idea of football very quickly.

But for sure he has a great will to train, to try to improve quickly

“Alvaro still needs to improve. He needs to improve his physical condition and understand our idea of football.

“But for sure he has a great will to train, to try to improve quickly. There are only six days before our first official game against Arsenal in the Community Shield and then we start our League [against Burnley on August 12].

“I am particularly looking for him to improve his movement when we have the ball. He has only been with us for a few days whereas the other players know very well our idea of football."

Morata is expected to start for Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday (2pm), with Arsenal set to play their own club-record signing up top in Alexandre Lacazette.
