EVERTON will launch a late bid to sign Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck - if they fail to land his team-mate Olivier Giroud.

Everton are desperate to sign a new striker before the end of the transfer window.

Their two additions up front - Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramires - are not viewed as direct replacements for Romelu Lukaku, who was sold to Manchester United.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman wants a presence up front, which is why the Dutchman has been chasing Giroud for much of the summer.

But with little progress being made on that deal the boss is seeking a replacement target.

And the Sunday Mirror claim Giroud’s strike partner Welbeck is on Everton’s radar.

Welbeck has endured two seasons of injuries at the Emirates and last term scored just four goals in 20 appearances.

The former Manchester United striker, 26, is supposedly worth £30million.

Arsenal may be open to a deal as they only paid United £16m for the England international back in 2014.

And the frontman himself may be receptive to Everton’s interest, with Alexandre Lacazette and Alexis Sanchez in front of him in the pecking order.
