Rooney scores STUNNING goal in first match back at Everton

Rooney ended his 13-year spell at Old Trafford this summer by sealing a return to his boyhood club Everton.

The England intentional scored 253 goals during his time at United, breaking Sir Bobby Charlton's record that had stood for 44 years.

Sir Alex Ferguson has previously stated Rooney's tally won't be broken.

But the 31-year-old believes a talented player that endures a lengthy stay at Old Trafford could well break his record.

The former United skipper said: “You never know, if they get someone like Messi or Ronaldo the record might get broken!

"But I think that in football now, players don’t really tend to stay at clubs for that long. The only way I can see it being broken is if someone stays for the same period of time that I did.

“It’s a great legacy to have left behind at United. I have got some great memories of a successful time for the club. It was great for me.
