The Red Devils left-back, 20, who spent last season on loan at Wolves, completed a medical on Friday night and becomes Leeds' 10th first-team summer signing.

But it’s gone down badly with United supporters due to the historic rivalry between the two sides.

That dates back to the 15th century and originates from the strong enmity between the counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire.

The cities of Leeds and Manchester are over 40 miles apart but there’s still plenty of animosity between the two clubs.

So when United announced the move on Twitter today, it was harldy a surprise that it went down terribly.

One United fan wrote: “Of all teams, Leeds? Literally any other Championship club, but f**king Leeds?”

Another tweeted: “Of all the f**king clubs! He turned down Ajax for that s**thole.”

A fellow supporter added: “Did he have to go to those scumbags?

Another suggested the player should take drastic action and wrote: “Leeds? Don't bother coming back, Cameron.”

Leeds head coach Thomas Christiansen has been searching for a replacement for Charlie Taylor, who joined Burnley for an undisclosed compensation fee last month.

Gaetano Berardi started at left-back in Leeds' 3-2 win at Bolton yesterday but was forced off at the Macron Stadium after dislocating his shoulder and is waiting to learn the full extent of the injury.

Leeds are also waiting to learn the severity of centre-half Matthew Pennington's injury as the Everton loanee's debut on Sunday was cut short after he turned his ankle in the second half.

Borthwick-Jackson progressed through Manchester United's academy and following his first-team debut under former manager Louis van Gaal in November 2015 has gone on to make a total of 14 appearances.

However, Borthwick-Jackson did not feature in Jose Mourinho's plans and joined Wolves on loan last season and made seven appearances.
