Pete Jenson: Newcastle could sign Lucas Vazquez from Madrid

Champions League winners Real Madrid take on the Europa League holders Manchester United today in the Super Cup (7.45pm).

And defeat for the La Liga side could see them lose more than the trophy, with winger Lucas Vazquez reportedly threatening to quit if he is not selected.

Spanish outlet Don Balon claim the 26-year-old is not happy with his current standing in the Real team, despite being in his 10th season.

And with a host of Europe's top clubs said to be circling, the Spain international has reportedly issued Real an ultimatum.

Lucas Vazquez has reportedly told close friends he intends to leave Real Madrid

The report says Vazquez has told friends he has every intention of leaving the Bernabeu if he is not selected by Zinedine Zidane.

The winger feels he has not been given a fair chance to impress in pre-season and could jump ship to one of four teams.

In the Premier League, , Liverpool and Newcastle United are all said to be showing an interest in Vazquez.

Meanwhile in Italy, Roma are reportedly keen with sporting director Monchi a long-term admirer of the winger.

Another factor which could determine Vazquez's future is the potential arrival of Kylian Mbappe from Monaco.

If the 18-year-old striker does end up signing for Real it would force him further down the pecking order, prompting him to leave.

Vazquez made 50 appearances last term in all competitions but was largely used as a substitute by Zidane, starting just 20 games.

He is a product of Real's youth academy and has played in the both the B and C teams and is under contract until June 2021.
