JOSE MOURINHO has given his assessment of Romelu Lukaku’s time so far at Manchester United.

Romelu Lukaku got on the scoresheet in his first competitive game for Manchester United last night, but he was on the losing side, as the Red Devils slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Real Madrid in the Super Cup.

The Belgian had a mixed display, as he was on target, but he also missed a golden opportunity too.

United splashed out £75million on the 24-year-old in the hope he will be able to inspire them to the title this term.

Some fans took to Twitter to bemoan his performance.

But was pleased with Lukaku’s showing, and explained how he has settled in at Old Trafford.

“It’s a difficult job to play against a team who dominate possession,” Mourinho said. 

“He tried. Of course he missed an open goal but he scored his goal and had a good fight against two central defenders.
