Arsenal not good enough to win league but Arsene Wenger criticism is wrong – Gary Neville

ARSENAL are not good enough to win the Premier League but Arsene Wenger still deserves to be the man in charge at the Emirates.

Arsene Wenger admits his attitude impacted last Premier League

That is the view of pundit and former Manchester United and England right-back Gary Neville.

Wenger was given a new two-year contract at the end of last season despite another campaign of disappointment in the Premier League and in Europe.

The Gunners failed to qualify for this year's Champions League for the first time this century but Wenger was still deemed the right man for the job.

Neville was pleased to see Arsenal be loyal to their long-serving boss but does not think this season will end their 14-year wait for a league title.

The performance dropped below the Arsenal standard but I felt it became too easy for people to stick the knife in to Arsene Wenger

Gary Neville on Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger

“Maybe not (enough changes) to win the league, which ultimately is what they want to do,” Neville said on Sky Sports.

“I think last season was such a disruptive season, I didn’t like it.

“Obviously the performance dropped below the Arsenal standard but I felt it became too easy for people to stick the knife in to Arsene Wenger, he deserved more than that.

Arsenal won't win the league this season, according to Gary Neville

“I don’t think that was right, even my colleague here (Jamie Carragher) said he should have left at the end of the season.

“I genuinely do believe in a season where we saw (Claudio) Ranieri sacked (at Leicester) after winning the league that we should reward and praise when club’s show the ultimate loyalty and sticking with the manager.”

Arsenal started the season with a dramatic 4-3 win over Leicester last night, thanks to two goals inside the last 10 minutes from substitutes Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud.
