ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC has been warned to slow down by doctors as he eyes a return to football this year.

Ibrahimovic was released by Manchester United this summer after a knee injury ended his season early.

He missed United’s Europa League victory and the final games of the Premier League season.

The superstar Swede was initially ruled out until January but now looks on course to be fit by December.

Jose Mourinho revealed he’d held talks over giving the 35-year-old another contract in January if he can prove his fitness.

Mourinho said: “We are discussing the possibility of him to stay with us.

“It was very clear from him that what he did last year was not enough for him.

“He wants more football at the highest level so we are having conversations and discussing the possibility of him staying for the second part of the season.

“He is injured, he needs time to recover, and is not ready to play tomorrow. It’s not something that’s urgent, it’s not desperate to have it done or not.”

But the Sun report that Ibrahimovic has been told to ease up his rehab after fears he is overdoing his work in the gym.

American specialists are believed to think he needs to slow down to avoid further complications.

Ibrahimovic has taken a week off - where he was spotted diving off a yacht in the south of France with agent Mino Raiola.

And Ibrahimovic has yet to decide his future with an offer from AC Milan also to consider and interest from America.

He is believes to want to stay in Europe and is using United’s facilities during his rehab making them favourites to sign him if he does return to fitness.

But after scoring 28 goals last season he would have to battle Romelu Lukaku for a place in the side having given up his number nine shirt to the Belgium star.
