And Bruce, who has a strong relationship with Arsenal, is hoping to lure him to the Championship by tempting him with a big contract and bonuses.

The boss has already signed John Terry after he left Chelsea and The Mirror say he wants to bring in another marquee signing.

However, it remains to be seen whether Wilshere would step down to the Championship as he could decide to stay and fight for his place.

Wilshere suffered a broken leg during his loan spell at Bournemouth last season, but returned to fitness for Arsenal against Derby’s Under 23s on Monday night.

The academy graduate is said to be desperate to get back to his best and he could be offered a route back into Arsenal’s first-team via the Europa League.

Arsene Wenger has vowed to use youngsters and squad players in the competition and Wilshere will be looking to take his chance if the opportunity presents itself.

Wilshere has made 159 appearances for the north London side since making his debut during the 2008-09 Premier League campaign.

Villa are in need of a pick me up after their start to the season went from bad to worse last night with a 2-1 defeat to Reading which sent them second bottom.
