Jonny Evans is on Manchester City's radar as Pep Guardiola looks to add a defender

Evans is captain at West Brom and previously played for City’s fierce rivals Manchester United.

But Pep Guardiola is said to be keen on a deal for the 29-year-old as he looks to add a defender to his star-studded squad.

Sky Sports speculate that Guardiola’s side have already seen one bid rejected, although say one source has told them discussions are yet to get that far.

City have spent in excess of £200m this summer but haven’t signed a central defender despite concerns over Vincent Kompany’s fitness.

Eliaquim Mangala was included in the squad for Saturday’s opener with Brighton but looks set for a move to Inter Milan.

Guardiola played a back three with Kompany, John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi in the 2-0 win.

Tony Pulis would loathe to lose his skipper with the season already underway but with City’s seemingly endless pot of money a deal could be agreed if the player is keen.

Evans spent 11 years at Manchester United before being shipped out by Louis van Gaal and is into his third season at the Hawthorns.
