Roman Abramovich ego at Chelsea could force Antonio Conte out the door - John Giles

ROMAN ABRAMOVICH has always interfered with transfers and it could lead to Antonio Conte leaving Chelsea, according to former Manchester United and Leeds star John Giles.

Conte has cut a frustrated figure in recent weeks as he grows increasingly concerned about the size of his squad.

Alvaro Morata, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Willy Caballero have all joined the Blues this summer.

But Nemanja Matic was a shock exit from Stamford Bridge, who left for Manchester United last month.

Conto hinted that Matic's departure was not his doing and Giles, who won two First Division titles with Leeds, believes the Chelsea boss could walk if Abramovich continues to supposedly meddle in transfers.

Abramovich insists on interfering and will never stop. His ego won’t allow it

"He doesn’t care what I or anyone else think about how he is running his football club," Giles wrote in the Irish Independent

"Billionaires have enough money to make their word law and advice from anyone who doesn’t follow the script is rarely welcome.

"Antonio Conte and his players are now in exactly the same boat Jose Mourinho was in two seasons ago – title winners at a club where winning guarantees nothing.

"Abramovich insists on interfering and will never stop. His ego won’t allow it."

He added: "Logically, this can only end one way. Conte is a proud man at the top of his profession. Unlike Mourinho, he came to Stamford Bridge with no baggage.

"He would be an exceptional candidate for any job in football and knows that Chelsea is only one chapter in what I’m sure will be a great career in management."
