David de Gea to Real Madrid: Man Utd could get £70m, he's perfect for them - Shay Given

MANCHESTER UNITED ace David de Gea would be the perfect replacement for Keylor Navas at Real Madrid.

That's according to former Premier League goalkeeper Shay Given, who admits he was also surprised he didn't complete a switch to the Bernabeu this summer.

Madrid showed a strong interest in the Spaniard during the transfer window but United knocked back their efforts with Jose Mourinho adamant he would not be sold.

De Gea has long been linked with a move to his homeland and came closest to joining in the summer of 2015 but a deal fell through on deadline day.

However, Real tried again this time around with doubts over Navas' future between the sticks.

And Given feels the Red Devils could have got up to £70million for him if they'd agreed to do business with the La Liga champions.

"I felt this summer he might go," he told Sky Sports.

"I felt that Real Madrid, they alway sign a galactico every summer, and I'm still not sure about the Real Madrid goalkeeper [Keylor Navas].

"I think David de Gea would be the perfect replacement for him.

"I think now, we spoke about Mourinho and the team he's moulded, and I think to put a title challenge on it's important they keep De Gea at the club.

Shay Given feels David de Gea would be a good replacement for Keylor Navas

"There's not too many noises coming out of the David de Gea camp that he wants to move or whatever so Jose Mourinho has obviously convinced him this year we can win the league and he's a big part of that.

"If he went to Madrid these days for about £60m or £70m he'd be good value for money because he's got such a long future ahead of him.

"Manchester United fans are obviously desperate to keep hold of him and he's a fantastic goalkeeper."

De Gea's current contract with United runs until 2019.
