Rashford and Martial will get more goals with Lukaku at Man Utd claims Higginbotham
ANTHONY MARTIAL and Marcus Rashford will be given more chances to rack up the goals now Manchester United have Romelu Lukaku, according to Danny Higginbotham.
Romelu Lukaku: Mourinho makes teams better
Manchester United spent £75million to bring Romelu Lukaku to Old Trafford from Everton.
Jose Mourinho’s men got their Premier League campaign off to a flying start last weekend with an emphatic 4-0 win over West Ham.
Lukaku helped himself to a double, while Martial and Pogba also on the scoresheet.
And Higginbotham thinks Lukaku’s ability to stretch defenders will ensure his team-mates reap the rewards.
“Lukaku, who scored two against the Hammers, likes to play on the shoulder of the defenders and I expect him to venture much further forward than Zlatan ever did,” Higginbotham wrote in The Sun.
Romelu Lukaku got his Manchester United career off to a flying start
As a defender, if I was up against Lukaku, I’d give myself a yard or two
“Against West Ham, Pogba scored from outside the box and so, too, did Anthony Martial.
“And with Lukaku, I feel Pogba, Mata, Rashford, Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will all get more shooting opportunities.
“As a defender, if I was up against Lukaku, I’d give myself a yard or two.
“But by dropping deep, your defence becomes narrow and this creates more space down the sides.
Danny Higginbotham will benefit from Romelu Lukaku
“Lukaku stretches the defence, so a gap is created between the opposition’s midfield and defence – and it is in this gap that United can be so dangerous.
“I see United scoring a greater share of goals from midfield now than during Jose Mourinho’s first season in charge – and plenty of goals from outside the box.”
United travel to face Swansea tomorrow (12:30pm).
