Ivan Perisic is set to sign a new contract with Inter Milan

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Ivan Perisic for weeks but have struggled to reach an agreement with Inter Milan.

The Red Devils had hoped to sign the Croatia international on a cut-price deal but Inter dug in their heels and refused to sell.

Luciano Spalletti claimed last week negotiations between the two clubs had stalled and he would ‘strongly oppose’ his sale so late in the transfer window.

And it seems Inter have gone to greater lengths to keep the winger at the San Siro, offering him a new contract which he intends to sign.

Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic teases fans on Instagram

Italian outlet TransferMarketWeb claim Perisic has been handed a deal worth £96,000 a week - making him the highest paid player at Inter.

And he is reportedly prepared to sign on the dotted line, pledging his services to the Serie A club long term.

Speaking at the weekend about Perisic, Spalletti claimed he was an important member of the squad with an integral role to play in Inter’s future.

“Perisic is a great player in the vein of Giacinto Facchetti, Javier Zanetti and Marco Materazzi, a leader who gives something more than an individual usually does,” he said.

“After this initial discussion, I never had any more signals of a departure, in training or outside of it.

"Ivan is someone who has his own training schedule after the session is finished, working in the gym, and is one of the most professional players I've met.

“He does something that only those who have a real sentiment for the club will do, because he never holds back and works so hard for the team.

“Perisic is not just in the Inter project, he is one of those we need to follow and who will set the path we are moving towards.”
