JOSE MOURINHO reportedly challenged his Manchester United players to win the Double before the start of the season.

Manchester United last completed a Premier League and FA Cup double back in 1999 when they went on to complete a historic treble under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Mourinho’s men have started this term in fine fashion winning both of their league games 4-0 against West Ham and Swansea respectively.

And according to The Sun, Mourinho outlined his target during a pre-season speech to the squad.

The Portuguese tactician supposedly told his squad the aim should be to win the Double and reach at least the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

A source told The Sun: “The target he has given the players reflects how positive he feels about this group.

“He has made them believe in what can be achieved and there is a real confidence in this squad they can do it.”

United’s last league triumph came in 2013 when Ferguson was still in charge.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils were given a boost when Luke Shaw returned from injury to play in the Under-23s on Monday.

Luke Shaw could return to first-team action soon

Speaking about his return, Shaw said: “I’m feeling really good and I’m looking for the first-team spot now. 

“When the manager needs me I’m going to be ready.”

United are next up in action against on Saturday (5:30pm).
