Man Utd News: Gary Neville insists Marcus Rashford can’t be dropped for Anthony Martial

MANCHESTER UNITED star Marcus Rashford shouldn’t have to make way for Anthony Martial.

Anthony Martial destroys Real Madrid defence with superb run

That’s the view of United legend Gary Neville.

Rashford has started both of United’s 4-0 wins in their opening two matches of the Premier League campaign but failed to score in either game.

In contrast, Martial has been reduced to a spot in the bench but has scored in both games after coming on.

Many United fans are now calling for the Frenchman to make the starting XI for their clash against Leicester on Saturday (5.30pm).

Gary Nevilled doesn't think Jose Mourinho should drop Marcus Rashford

But Neville doesn’t think it would be fair on 19-year-old Rashford just two games into the season.

"Martial has been devastating when coming off the bench but there’s no doubt he’s coming on against teams that are tired,” Neville said on Sky Sports.

"He’s a brilliant finisher, his composure is brilliant.

“It’d be unfair for him to come in [at the] expense of Rashford. If you look at his work, his dribbles, his sprints.”

And while Mourinho is pleased with Rashford’s efforts so far, the Portuguese is also a fan of what Romelu Lukaku is bringing to his team-mates, insisting the former Everton man is helping the team progress on the pitch.

"I feel that connection [between Lukaku and Rashford] but I also feel that connection with more players," Mourinho said last week.

"I feel Martial and Romelu is a good connection. I feel Lingard is a good connection. I feel Mkhitaryan is a good connection.

"I think Romelu is a good player to play with. Okay, strikers, they live on numbers. It was probably because of his numbers that we paid so much to have him.”
