Manchester United have snapped up Ibrahimovic and Lukaku this transfer window during a fruitful summer for Jose Mourinho’s side.

The two are expected to forge a good understanding on the pitch and help the Red Devils end their wait for the Premier League title.

However, there are also doubts as to whether they will be given the chance to - particularly given Mourinho’s track-record of fielding just one striker up top.

And, speaking back in April, Zlatan Ibrahimovic hinted he was superior to strikers such as Lukaku and Sergio Aguero.

“I feel Lukaku is strong,” he said.

“Aguero is good, he’s all-round.”

But when quizzed as to why he neglected to mention himself, the mercurial hitman said:  “Lions, they don’t compare themselves with humans.”

In the scoring stakes, just two goals separated United’s two forwards.

Romelu Lukaku bagged an outstanding 26 goals from 39 games for Everton, helping Ronald Koeman’s side finish seventh in the table - eight points behind the Red Devils.

Ibrahimovic, meanwhile, struck 28 times after arriving from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

Man Utd News: Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are now team-mates

Though the return of Ibrahimovic has been met with much glee from United fans, pundit Paul Merson thinks it could have a bad effect on Lukaku.

“Lukaku is top man now, you can see it on the pitch. That's going to change!,” Merson said on Sky Sports.

“He's got a big presence, Ibrahimovic, and he hasn't gone to United to sit on the bench.

"If Lukaku goes a couple games without scoring, the fans will be cheering Zlatan's name, and Lukaku could go into his shell, and we saw that last season in big football matches for Everton, he went into his shell.”
