Alexis Sanchez transfer news: Arsenal can still convince him - Arsene Wenger

ARSENE WENGER remains hopeful he can still convince Alexis Sanchez to stay at Arsenal despite contract talks stalling.

Sanchez is likely to make his first appearance of the season against Liverpool on Sunday with Arsenal in desperate need of a win.

But it is the Chilean’s contract situation which continues to dominate much of the discussion surrounding Arsenal.

Wenger has been adamant Sanchez will not be allowed to leave the Emirates and the player has so far not made publicly clear that he wants to leave.

With less than a week left in the transfer window, replacing Sanchez would be a difficult task for Arsenal and Wenger.

And the Arsenal boss appears to be unfazed by the transfer talk and hopeful the 28-year-old will sign a new deal.

"We are in a very simple state, he has one year to go and I want him to stay. And if possible, during the season, extend the contract," Wenger told Sky Sports.

"I've dealt with this kind of situation many times, because when we built the stadium we had such restrictions on the financial front, and we weren't too much in a position where we had a choice to make a decision to sell.

"We are hopefully going to a future where we will be much stronger on that front."
