Arsenal Transfer News: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain must be sold this week - Charlie Nicholas

ARSENAL must cut ties with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and sell him before this Thursday’s transfer deadline, according to former Gunner Charlie Nicholas.

Alan Smith sends Oxlade-Chamberlain warning about leaving Arsenal

Oxlade-Chamberlain is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season and wants to leave the club.

He has turned down an improved £180,000-a-week deal and informed manager Arsene Wenger of his intentions to move away.

Reports claim Wenger is set to allow him to leave the club, with Premier League rivals Liverpool and Chelsea interested in his signature.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has started Arsenal’s first two games of the season at wing-back but is desperate to play in a central midfield role.

That would be my method, you’re sold. Go and get a transfer, we’ll take the money

Nicholas believes he should have realised years ago he would not get in the team in that position, with Arsenal signing several midfielders in recent transfer windows.

“He knocked back £180,000-a-week because he doesn’t want to be there, that’s what he’s telling you,” Nicholas said on Sky Sports of the Liverpool and Chelsea target.

“’I don’t want to be here, I want to go somewhere else’. Well my friend, sold.

"That would be my method, you’re sold. Go and get a transfer, we’ll take the money.

Arsenal transfer news: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is wanted by Chelsea and Liverpool

“He’s a fabulous potential talent and I don’t want to lose him, but he doesn’t want to be there.

“He must earn the right to get in the team.

“Surely he must know himself ‘I’m not going to get in this team’.

“When he sees people like (Aaron) Ramsey back in the team and then he sees (Granit) Xhaka coming in and (Mohamed) Elneny coming in and (Francis) Coquelin back in the team, all in front of him, would that not raise something in your mind to say ‘why are they signing them and I’m not getting to play the central midfield role?’”

Oxlade-Chamberlain trained today but it remains to be seen whether Arsene Wenger will name him in his squad to travel to Liverpool tomorrow (4pm).
