Liverpool are reportedly still in for Thomas Lemar

Liverpool have approached Monaco to sign Thomas Lemar for £55million.

The Telegraph claim the move is not linked to the future of Philippe Coutinho, who the club are insisting will not be joining Barcelona this summer.

The report says the Reds’ enquiry about Lemar was made earlier in the summer and remains active.

And the Anfield club will have been boosted in their attempts to sign the 21-year-old this week after Arsenal ruled themselves out of the chase.

Monaco's Thomas Lemars proves he is an INCREDIBLE talent

When asked about a move for Lemar, Arsene Wenger insisted a deal for the Frenchman was “dead”.

“It’s dead because Monaco has closed the door,” Wenger said.

“They’ve already lost [Benjamin] Mendy, Bernardo Silva and [Tiemoue] Bakayoko, so Monaco is at a stage where they have closed the door.”

However, The Telegraph claim this is not the case as negotiations remain open with Liverpool.

Tottenham have also reportedly discussed a move for Lemar who only signed for Monaco in 2015 from Caen for £3.5m.

And Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim admitted earlier this month the winger could be sold

“Fabinho, Lemar, Kylian, we're talking about them joining other clubs, but they stay focused,” he said.

"All the players who were important last season are important to keep for the club.

"But it has been shown over the years that it's not always possible to keep the players, and you know how our project works.”
