David de Gea to Real Madrid: Man Utd urged to sign Kasper Schmeichel by Garth Crooks

KASPER SCHMEICHEL would be an ideal replacement for David de Gea at Manchester United if the Spaniard joined Real Madrid.

Peter Schmeichel: It's a dream for Kaspar to play for United

That’s the view of pundit Garth Crooks.

David de Gea has been continually linked with a switch to the Bernabeu but United have always rejected Madrid’s advances.

However, many believe the Spain international will one day complete a move to the capital and Crooks is already thinking about his replacement.

His praise for Schmeichel comes after the 30-year-old impressed in Leicester’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday.

Despite losing, Schmeichel pulled off a string of brilliant saves, including denying Romelu Lukaku from the penalty spot.

Man Utd Transfer News: Kasper Schmeichel has been tipped to replace David de Gea

Here's a thought: if David de Gea were ever transferred to Real Madrid, would Schmeichel have what it takes to replace him? I think he would, you know.

Garth Crooks

Kasper’s spot-kick heroics now makes him more successful facing penalties at Old Trafford (saving 1 of 1) than his father Peter (saving 0 of 3), who made 292 league appearances for the Red Devils.

“When have you seen a goalkeeper save a penalty and not move before it was taken? Never, is the answer,” Crooks told the BBC.

“But that does not take anything away from the fact that Schmeichel's save from Romelu Lukaku in Leicester's 2-0 defeat at Manchester United was still top class.

“To have conceded two goals and still get in my team of the week you must have had one hell of a game. It's clear to me that Schmeichel just loves playing at Old Trafford.

“How extraordinary that he has saved more penalties at the ground than his father Peter did when he had the honour of playing for the Red Devils between 1991 and 1999.

“The truth is that had it not been for Kasper it could have been 5-0 and it was the Dane's outstanding performance that kept Leicester in the game for so long.
