Arsene Wenger was chanted at by fans as Arsenal were thrashed by Liverpool

Fans chanted 'Wenger out' after Arsenal's 4-0 defeat to Liverpool as the Gunners fell to their second Premier League loss in the opening three games.

It puts more pressure on Wenger, who only signed a new two-year deal this summer.

Jordan oversaw Crystal Palace's promotion to the Premier League and he believes Gazidis has considered a change of approach before.

He told Sky Sports: "There's been a backdrop of things that have gone on over the last couple of years - and there's been a campaign about Arsene Wenger and his position.

"Previous to that there's the idea that they wouldn't pay the top salaries. Then you've got a board a little bit disconnected from the outside.

Gazidis wanted change

Ex-Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan

"Gazidis, I know wanted change, he wanted a different direction, possibly even at management level.

"Put all these things in the mix and you've got the situations where players' contracts are beginning to run down, you had this situation with Van Persie a few years ago.

"There's really no reason for it, it's not good business, it's not good order and it's not good sense."

Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil now both have less than a year left on their contracts and the pair of them can sign pre-contract agreements with other clubs in January.

Jordan added: "Once the player understands the metrics of this marketplace, and know that a free transfer at the end of the season could end up with them getting more wages, it becomes more critical things are done properly.

"Arsenal have bad a backdrop of all these things going on which have made it hard for them to deal with players.

"Ultimately the team reflects leadership and leadership comes from the top of the club."
