Arsenal have reportedly been in negotiations with Barcelona regarding a swap deal involving Mesut Ozil and Arda Turan.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Depotivo claim the Gunners were interested in signing the Turkey international for around £23million.

And Barca were keen to offload the former Atletico Madrid man and are said to have enquired about including Ozil in the deal.

However, the report says negotiations broke down, leading Turan to explore the possibility of a move to Monaco.

The 30-year-old’s agent Jorge Mendes visited the Ligue 1 club’s offices this week to work on the transfer.

And it is said a deal could be forthcoming due to Mendes’ strong working relationship with the principality club.

Turan has struggled since moving to the Nou Camp and is not part of Ernesto Valverde’s plans going forward.

Ozil is similarly in a difficult situation at Arsenal and is in the final 12 months of his contract and is yet to agree new terms.

Speaking about a new deal with the Gunners last month, the Germany international said: “It is definitely my preference to stay.

“It is such a great club and I have always said that I feel very good at Arsenal.

“Once everyone is back in London, we will sit down and discuss about the future.”

However, the former Real Madrid star is yet to agree new terms and is out of contract in June 2018.
