Transfer News: Chelsea in talks for Danny Drinkwater as Leicester close in on replacement
CHELSEA remain locked in talks to sign Leicester star Danny Drinkwater as the transfer deadline approaches.
Chelsea are still some way short of meeting Leicester’s valuation from Drinkwater despite tabling a third bid earlier today.
But Sky Sports say Leicester are close to completing a £15million deal for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Adrien Silva.
Silva, 28, would represent a like-for-like replacement for the England international in Craig Shakespeare’s squad.
Chelsea are hopeful of signing Drinkwater as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his squad before 11pm.
Conte also wants a deal for Ross Barkley but the BBC claim he has rejected a move tonight.
David Ornstein said on BBC Radio Five Live: “I don’t mean to be the bearer of more bad news for Chelsea.
“[But] Barkley has turned down a move to Chelsea tonight.
“Not official. Don’t know whether that opens the way for a move to Tottenham or to stay at Everton.
“[But] the information I’m receiving is that he has rejected Chelsea.”
