According to Sky Sports, the decision was taken after Eliaquim Mangala’s move to Crystal Palace fell through.

Ex-Manchester United ace Evans has been heavily linked with a move away during this transfer window.

Arsenal were also interested and had a £25million bid rejected.

The West Brom captain has made 65 appearances and scored three goals during his two-year stay at the Hawthorns.

He started his career at City’s rivals United where he played 198 times for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

Manchester City were understood to be in pole position but had to get Mangala off their wage bill.

The Frenchman has failed to establish himself at the Etihad having played just 64 times since joining from Porto in 2014.

The 26-year-old spent last season on loan to Valencia where he made 33 appearances.
