Arsenal transfer news: Alexis Sanchez to Man City was 'made up' - Arturo Vidal

ALEXIS SANCHEZ was NOT close to joining Manchester City, according to Chile team-mate Arturo Vidal.

Simon Jordan: Alexis Sanchez will leave Arsenal but in right way

Sanchez has wanted to leave Arsenal all summer, refusing to sign a new contract with the club and signalling his desire to play under Pep Guardiola again at Man City.

But his proposed move to the Etihad collapsed on transfer deadline day when Arsenal were unable to bring in a replacement for him after finally agreeing to sell the Chilean for £55million.

It means Sanchez will remain an Arsenal player at least until January, when he could sign a pre-contract agreement with another club.

It is also unclear what the 28-year-old's current mindset is after seeing the move fail but he was a forlorn figure as Chile were beaten 3-0 by Paraguay in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday.

I think it was all made up because Sanchez was very focused on today's game

But Vidal, who scored an own goal in that game, claims Sanchez did not agree a deal to join City and had not told his team-mates that a transfer was done.

"To whom? No, no, to nobody," Vidal told reporters after the match.

"Not to me. I don't think so.

Alexis Sanchez will remain at Arsenal this season

"I think it was all made up because he was very focused on today's game."

When also asked if Sanchez was distracted by talk about his future, Vidal added: "No, no. I don't know. I don't know.

"I think I have to see the game first before I can speak about that."
