ARSENE WENGER has lost all respect from his Arsenal players, according to Paul Merson.

The Arsenal boss signed a two-year contract extension at the back end of last season despite the club failing to finish in the top four and missing out on Champions League qualification for the first time in 17 years.  

Arsene Wenger vowed to kickstart a new era at the club and he made a statement of intent by sealing the club-record signing of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon. 

But he has had a disastrous start both on and off the pitch with the club claiming just three points from their opening three Premier League games and missing out on a host of other top transfer targets.

This has yet again called into question Wenger’s reign at .

And Merson reckons the Gunners’ defeat to Liverpool at Anfield put the icing on the cake for as he called into question the players’ faith in him. 

“Arsenal’s 4-0 thrashing by Liverpool was the worst I have EVER seen under Wenger. It was shambolic, horrendous,” Merson wrote in his column for The Daily Star

“I think the players have lost all respect for him. But I think the fans are losing all respect as well.

“They are playing for Arsenal and they are turning it into a mockery. They are embarrassing the football club.

“It’s becoming one of football’s also-rans because they are a million miles from winning the league and that’s pathetic.

“I’m disgusted. It’s just an embarrassment from top to bottom. It frustrates me. And it will get worse too.”
