Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere rejected a move to Birmingham

Birmingham offered Jack Wilshere a staggering £4.67million-a-year deal to join them in the Championship.

Harry Redknapp was willing to give the midfielder a fresh start after years of frustration at Arsenal.

Wilshere’s contract is up this summer and the 25-year-old had options to leave the Emirates this summer.

But the Sunday Mirror claim Wilshere was not interested in dropping down a division.

The England international played on loan at Bournemouth last season but he ended the campaign with an ankle injury that hampered his pre-season.

He is not yet 100 per cent ready for first-team selection but did recently get a run-out for the reserves, where he was sent off in a match against Manchester City.

Redknapp brought in a host of players at St Andrews this summer but the Sunday Mirror claim he could not convince Wilshere to join him.

Birmingham sit 20th in the Championship, having won just one of their opening five games of the campaign.
