Arsenal News: Mesut Ozil slammed and labelled ‘ridiculous’ by another former Gunner

ARSENAL star Mesut Ozil must forget about criticism off the pitch and concentrate on performing on it, according to former Gunners striker Paul Mariner.

Ozil released a statement on Saturday evening, hitting out at critics of his performances for Arsenal.

The German was particularly aiming at former Arsenal players, writing: “My advice to these former Gunners: stop talking and start supporting!”

Now Mariner, who scored 14 goals in 60 games during his time at the club in the 1980’s, has had his say on Ozil.

He says ex-players only criticise the club and individuals because they want them to succeed.

“What an absolute ridiculous statement,” Mariner said on ESPN FC of Mesut Ozil.

“If he played for Arsenal like he did for Germany, we would have no arguments.

“He’s supposed to be the top player, the creator.

“We love this football club, all the ex-players love Arsenal Football Club.

“The way that they treat us now is no different to the way we were treated before, it’s fantastic.

“That’s why we’re concerned of what is going on on the field.

“It’s a shambles off the field with (Ivan) Gazidis and Arsene Wenger because it’s been a disastrous transfer window.

“He’s got to forget all this rubbish about answering the Twitter people and the public, he’s got to put his boots on and play football, get after it!”

Ozil will look to help Arsenal get back to winning ways this Saturday when Bournemouth visit the Emirates (3pm).
