Jesse Lingard reveals he wants Antoine Griezmann at Man United

Manchester United identified Griezmann as their chief summer target shortly after securing Champions League football for this season back in May.

But their efforts to sign the France international failed after Atletico were banned from signing new players until the New Year.

Despite that, talk remains rife that Jose Mourinho still harbours hopes of signing Griezmann further down the line.

However, Spanish outlet Don Balon claims Simeone is determined to keep Griezmann out of Manchester United's clutches.

United’s need for the striker has waned following the arrival of Romelu Lukaku from Everton for a huge £75million back in July.

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have both enjoyed stellar starts to the new campaign as well, with the latter bagging a sublime winner for England against Slovakia last night.

Yet Griezmann remains on Mourinho’s radar with the 54-year-old determined to land a marquee name.

Don Balon say Atletico could face a fight to keep the 26-year-old if United come calling.

But Simeone, who has extended his stay with Los Colchoneros, wants to keep the forward until the end of his contract.

Atletico will only likely accept a bid from United for their star striker if they land a replacement.

And that could be Chelsea striker Diego Costa, despite a return to Spain falling through last month.

Costa wanted to return but the Blues blocked any move.
