Arsenal news: Failed Thomas Lemar deal shows Arsene Wenger is dated - Joleon Lescott

ARSENAL’s failed deadline day move for Thomas Lemar showcases the fact that Arsene Wenger’s methods are dated.

Arsenal target Thomas Lemar scores a SCREAMER for France

That is the opinion of Sky Sports pundit and former Manchester City and England defender Joleon Lescott.

Arsenal bid £92million for Monaco winger Lemar to allow Alexis Sanchez to complete a move to Manchester City.

Monaco accepted the offer but Lemar chose not to sign for the Gunners with just hours left of the window, which meant Sanchez stayed.

This call came just a week after Wenger had said a deal for Lemar was “completely dead” after seeing an offer of around £45million rebuffed.

Arsenal news: Arsene Wenger's methods are dated, according to Sky Sports pundit Joleon Lescott

Two weeks ago Arsenal were willing to spend £45million on Thomas Lemar and then two weeks later they doubled it

Lescott says Arsenal should have offered the required amount much earlier than they did, a problem which has been common in Arsene Wenger’s reign.

"His knowledge of the game is second to none,” Lescott said on Sky Sports.

“I’m just sure the way he’s going about things is a little bit dated due to the fact that two weeks ago Arsenal were willing to spend £45million on Lemar and then two weeks later they doubled it.

“How true that is no one is actually going to know until the next window.

“Arsene has come out and said he will bid again.

“I’m just sure they need to keep up with the likes of Man City and United and just invest.

“Stop worrying about what players cost and just look at what they can bring to the team and pay the asking prices for them players.”

Arsenal will look to bounce back from their 4-0 defeat to Liverpool when they host Eddie Howe's Bournemouth at the Emirates this Saturday (3pm).
