Romelu Lukaku grateful

03:00: Romelu Lukaku has revealed he is ‘grateful’ to be able to work with Jose Mourinho again at Manchester United.

Lukaku had problems in the past with Mourinho and was sold to Everton.

Despite getting on the wrong side of Mourinho previously, Lukaku insists he feels blessed to get a chance to play for the Portuguese tactician again.

“I wanted to play for Mourinho since I was 11,” Lukaku told the BBC’s The Premier League Show.

“When you get another chance like that, you don't say no. I'm really grateful for the second opportunity.”

Thomas Muller revival

00:30: Manchester United could reportedly revive their attempts to sign Bayern Munich striker Thomas Muller in January.

United have held a long-standing interest in the 27-year-old Germany international.

Reports emerged earlier today suggested Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have all enquired over his availability.

However, Italian paper Tuttosport claim United are monitoring Muller's situation with a view to a potential January bid.

The report says Muller has become increasingly unhappy with life at the Allianz Arena.

Lawrenson expecting Man Utd win

22:45: BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson is expecting Manchester United to beat Stoke comfortably this weekend.

Jose Mourinho’s side are hoping to make it four wins from four when they take on the Potters on Saturday (5.30pm).

He said: “Manchester United have not won at Stoke in four league visits since Sir Alex Ferguson left as manager in 2013, but I think they are well equipped to put that poor record right on Saturday.

“United boss Jose Mourinho has played down their 100% winning start but I have been impressed with their performances as well as their results.

“Stoke showed how difficult they are at home when they beat Arsenal, but United will put up far more of a fight. They have the players to impose themselves on Stoke, and leave with the points this time.”

Hamsik coy on future move

19:50: Napoli star Marek Hamsik has remained coy on a move to either Manchester United or Barcelona.

“That’s hard to say," he told German magazine Kicker.

"It would surely be the hardest decision in my career.

"Maybe everyone wants to play at these clubs, but I can’t answer that.

"I think that Napoli is one of the top 10 European teams in terms of gameplay and performance.”

Perisic blow

18:51: Inter Milan are set to offer Ivan Perisic a new contract that could contain an ‘anti-Manchester United’ clause.

Jose Mourinho tried desperately to sign the Croatian during the summer transfer window but Inter were reluctant to budge on their £48million asking price.

Perisic was thought to be keen on a move to Old Trafford but is now putting the saga behind him and looks set to commit his future to the Italian giants.

Perisic’s current contract runs until 2020, but Inter want to tie him down to a long-term deal to ward off interest from potential suitors.

Italian publication Gazetta dello Sport claim the influential winger will pocket around £4.1m-a-year to make him one of Inter’s top earners on his new contract.

And in bid to avoid a similar scenario playing out in the January transfer window or next summer, Inter look set to include a clause that excludes overseas clubs - blocking United from signing him.

Merson not convinced by United

17:35: Manchester United are in for a tough challenge away at Stoke on Saturday (5.30pm), says Paul Merson.

“I haven't really bought into Manchester United so far this season,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“They won games by an impressive margin, yes, but I don't think they've clicked yet.

“They scored three goals in three minutes against Swansea, West Ham were comfortable for 25 minutes before throwing the towel in and Leicester had good chances at Old Trafford where a top quality team would have punished them.

“The bet365 Stadium has always been a hard place to go but I can see United edging it.”

Manchester clubs voted against transfer window changes

16:46: Manchester United and Manchester City were among the five clubs to vote against moving the transfer deadline to the eve of next season in a meeting of the Premier League chairman today.

14 clubs voted through the motion by the narrowest possible margin and next summer Premier League clubs only will stop trading at 5pm on August 9, the Thursday before the first weekend of fixtures.

Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea are all understood to have been among those in favour, with one club choosing to abstain.

Allardyce tips United

14.45: Manchester United will win the Premier League, according to Sam Allardyce.

“Jose has done it before and he has done it many different countries. He knows how to do it,” Allardyce told talkSPORT.

"He knows when and where to change his tactics, to change how the team plays. You have seem it many times.

"He started the process of being a Jose team last year when they were a whisker away from being a lot better than they finished.

“There were too many draws and not enough wins and it looks like he has cured their problem – they didn’t score enough goals and their goal record and attack is far better now."

Jose to sanction Young’s exit

13:30: Ashley Young is set for crunch talks with Jose Mourinho over his Manchester United future.

The winger’s current contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the summer and he was expected to leave in the previous transfer window.

The Manchester United ace has a 12-month extension option in his deal and the former England international hopes the club activate it.

However, Young would likely only be used as a squad player having not played a single minute of their campaign so far this term.

The Sun claim Jose Mourinho is expected to tell Young he can leave and United will not stand in his way if he wants regular football.

But Young would accept the same terms at United next season even if it means a reduced role.

Shaw annoys United

13:00: Luke Shaw angered a member of Manchester United’s staff after he embraced Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino following a recent reserves match.

Shaw has been recovering from an ankle ligament injury suffered in the latter stages of last season and is playing for the under-23s in a bid to build up fitness.

On August 25, United were beaten 3-0 by Spurs at Stevenage's Lamex Stadium with Shaw completing the 90 minutes.

But according to the Manchester Evening News, during the match, Shaw and his former Southampton manager Pochettino embraced.

The report says this moment didn’t go down well with a United staff member but it is unclear why.

Pogba gloves odds

12:00: Paul Pogba is 7/1 with Betway to reach for the gloves when Manchester United travel to Stoke on Saturday.

Pogba has been spotted wearing gloves in not too chilly conditions before, and with temperatures forecast to dip into single digits for the 5.30pm kick-off, the bookmaker has opened a market on him slipping them on again.

United have claimed maximum points from their first three Premier League games and Betway offer 10/3 that they don’t drop a point throughout September, as they take on Stoke, Everton, Southampton and Crystal Palace before the turn of the month.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s ‘Deadline Day’ recruit, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, is odds-on at 8/13 to fail to record a shot on target, 11/2 to make an assist and 14/1 to be given the Man of the Match award.

Jose eyes Barca whizkid

11:05: Manchester United are interested in signing Barcelona talent Xavi Simons.

And could receive considerable help from Mino Raiola.

Spanish reports claim Jose Mourinho wants Simons, 14, at Old Trafford and his newly-appointed agent Raiola will flex his relationship with United to make it happen.

Chelsea and Real Madrid were previously linked with the Spanish whizkid, but Raiola met with Simons' father on Sunday, and may have already beaten them to the punch.

Anti-Manchester United clause...

10:15: Ivan Perisic will have a clause inserted into his contract that prevents Manchester United from signing him.

I didn’t even know that was possible.

Anyway, Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claim Inter Milan will insert an anti-Manchester United clause in the 28-year-old’s new deal.

The Red Devils were constantly linked with Perisic over the summer, but their pursuit could be at an end with Perisic ready to sign a lucrative £4million-a-year contract.

United's Bale hopes grow

09:30: This is a strange one that might please a few Manchester United supporters.

Spanish publication Don Balon claim Zinedine Zidane and president Florentino Perez have agreed a pact to rotate Gareth Bale.

The 28-year-old missed plenty of action with various injuries last season, and Perez reportedly wants to protect the Welsh international so that they can sell him next summer.

Manchester United have been linked with Bale over the past couple of years, and could capture their target for £91.5million.

LaLiga boss' spending rant

08:45: LaLiga boss Javier Tebas came to Manchester yesterday with a stark warning for City: your spending is skewing the European football market and we will take legal action to stop it.

The 55-year-old administrator was the headline act on the final day of the Soccerex Global Convention and he did not disappoint.

Asked about the threat posed by state clubs, he said: “If there is too much money in the market, prices go up. Everybody knows this and it is damaging football because then you get Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Juventus and all the big clubs saying to their leagues and UEFA, 'give me more TV money, otherwise City with its oil will take all our players'. It's never-ending.”

United are ready for title charge - Phelan

08:00: Manchester United finally have a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title, according to Mike Phelan.

United have not won the English top flight since Sir Alex Ferguson called time on his illustrious career in 2013.

But Phelan, who was Ferguson’s right-hand man during his tenure as United boss, believes Mourinho has put the Red Devils in a strong position to return to the top of English football.

"It's been a very good start. I think the fixture list has been kind in a way, but the preparation has been good and that's showing in the results they've got,” Phelan told ESPN FC.

"They bought well in the summer. They look physically stronger and mentally more attuned to the job now so it looks as though progress has been made.

"It's a squad that has definitely got credentials now. The Premier League is a difficult league to win and there a lot of other clubs who have invested heavily.

“I think they have given themselves a real opportunity to be successful. United are certainly in the contest, probably a lot more in the contest than they have in the previous few years.”

Mourinho eyes Rose/Shaw swap

07:55: Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is considering offering Luke Shaw as a makeweight to sign Tottenham star Danny Rose, reports claim.

The Mirror claim Mourinho is desperate to bring Rose to Old Trafford.

And would be willing to send Shaw to White Hart Lane to link up with Mauricio Pochettino, who he served under at Southampton.

Shaw has struggled for form and fitness during his United career, and Mourinho is unsure about his future in the North West.
