Chelsea news: Danny Drinkwater in for an uncomfortable trip to Leicester - Graeme Le Saux

DANNY DRINKWATER faces an uncomfortable afternoon when he travels to former club Leicester with his new side Chelsea tomorrow (3pm).

Drinkwater left Leicester on deadline day to complete a £35million move to Premier League champions Chelsea.

The England international spent five years at the King Power Stadium following his move from Manchester United.

He won the Championship and Premier League titles during his time with the Foxes, making 218 appearances across all competitions in the process.

And former Chelsea left-back Graeme Le Saux believes the 26-year-old could be in for an uncomfortable experience when he faces his former fans tomorrow.

It could be especially difficult for Danny if he starts the game on the bench

“Returning to a former club a week after the transfer window closes is a really tough position to be in,” Le Saux told Betfair.

“It sounds trivial but even something as small as remembering to go into the away dressing room can become an awkward obstacle to overcome and it’s hard to convey just how different it feels going in there for the first time.

“After leaving Blackburn for Chelsea, I found returning to Ewood Park a really emotional occasion and unless you can get your head around it quickly it can develop into an uncomfortable situation.

“You can get carried away with what the fans reaction will be when you get out onto the pitch and it could be especially difficult for Danny if he starts the game on the bench.

“He’ll have to warm up in front of the Leicester fans during the game - not an enviable task.

“That being said I did find that I would raise my game when coming up against a former club as it’s a real opportunity to show why your new club valued your signature.”
