Hughes laments Lukaku failure

22:30: Mark Hughes has revealed he tried to sign Manchester United star Romelu Lukaku while at QPR.

“I tried to get him at QPR but he ended up going to WBA on loan,” he said.

“Clearly I didn’t pitch too well – probably because I didn’t say he’d play week in week out. I’ve learnt from that.”

Neymar already eyeing Real Madrid

22:20: PSG star Neymar wants to join Real Madrid despite having played for their fierce rivals Barcelona.

Barcelona lost Neymar to PSG last month for a world-record £200million fee in a move which stunned the football world.

But Spanish outlet Diario Gol hints Neymar may have deliberately signed for PSG in order to broker a move to Real Madrid further down the line.

It is said say the reason his contract is being kept closely under wraps is because the player insisted on a clause that would open the door to a Madrid move.

Mourinho criticises Pereira

20:43: Jose Mourinho has questioned young midfielder Andreas Pereira for walking out of Manchester United in a loan move to Valencia.

Mourinho said: “His was a personal decision that I don't agree with, a decision I don't think honestly is the best decision for him, a decision that disappoints me.

“He has the potential to be fighting for a position, fighting for opportunities and fighting to be a Manchester United player.

“His decision can be considered a young player who wants to play every weekend but also a young player that is not ready to fight for something difficult.

“And it's difficult to play in Manchester United’s midfield. You have to be ready to fight for the position and I am disappointed he left.”

Costa latest

19:23: Is Diego Costa having a medical in Turkey? Could he return to Chelsea? What has Antonio Conte said about the striker?

Costa’s move to Fenerbahce looks to have collapsed while claims of a last-minute move to Besiktas appear unlikely.

So what exactly is going on with the Chelsea star? We bring you up to speed here.

Perisic on United snub

17:46: Ivan Perisic has revealed why he snubbed Manchester United after signing a new contract at Inter Milan.

Manchester United trailed the talented Croatian winger for most of the summer with Jose Mourinho viewing him as his fourth key signing.

But United failed to meet Inter’s £50m valuation for Perisic and he has now decided to remain at the San Siro for the foreseeable future.

"It's a special day for me, an emotional and happy one after the stress of the summer,” he said. “Now we are all looking forward and I'm only thinking about Inter.

"For a long time I kept my counsel, and now I can say that (head coach Luciano) Spalletti told me that I could be an even better version of myself here.

"We've done well in the first two matches of the season and we need to continue that way."

Janssen leaves Tottenham

16:45: Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen has joined Fenerbahce on loan.

The Dutchman struggled last season, scoring just six goals from 35 games across all competitions.

The deadline day arrival of Fernando Llorente was always expected to force Janssen out.

And the Netherlands international will now be plying his trade in Turkey.

Mega Lemar contract

13:16: Arsenal are willing to hand Thomas Lemar a staggering contract to convince him to join in January, according to reports.

Arsenal remain hopeful of securing the France international when the January transfer window opens.

And the Guardian claim they will handsomely reward the 21-year-old for finally ditching Monaco.

According to the report, Arsenal will offer Lemar a five-year contract worth £250,000-a-week.

That would amount to £65m over the duration of the terms.

And, if the UK’s current top tax rate stays at its current 45 per cent, Lemar can expect to have earned £35.75m by 2023.

Klopp angry with Can

12:39: Jurgen Klopp has reacted badly to Emre Can’s demand for a release clause in his new Liverpool contract, according to reports.

Express Sport understands Juventus want to sign the Germany international and plan talks in the New Year.

And Italian outlet Calciomercato claim the major stand-off between Liverpool and the player is not wages.

According to the report, Can’s biggest bugbear is the lack of a release clause in Liverpool’s contract offer.

Klopp is not impressed by the behaviour of Can and his representatives.

The manager has stayed faithful to the player through the uncertainty over his future.

It is claimed Klopp has demanded a definitive answer from Can over the contract offer within a few weeks.

Bale to Man Utd hope

12:02: Gareth Bale could return to Manchester United’s agenda next summer after a fresh relegation from Real Madrid’s president Florentino Perez.

Bale has been a long-term target of United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

And Perez admits the player would leave the Bernabeu.

"[Bale] is one of the best players we have and we are very pleased with him. There were no offers for him and what Mourinho said about him was just said in a complimentary way," Perez told Cadena Ser.

"Every player is transferrable right now and we will see what happens in a year, although I don't know what'll happen next year, nobody does."

Besiktas for Costa?

10:47: Besiktas have emerged as a possible last-minute suitor for Diego Costa.

Chelsea want to get rid of Costa as the player is not part of Antonio Conte’s plans.

Today is Turkey’s deadline day and a move to Fenerbahce has already collapsed.

But there are claims Besiktas could muscle in for the striker before the deadline passes.

Arsenal go back for Lemar

10.25: Arsenal are confident of signing Thomas Lemar in January.

Lemar rejected a deadline day bid to stay with Monaco after Arsenal had tried to replace Alexis Sanchez.

The France international opted to stay put but Arsene Wenger insists he was not rejected.

And the Daily Star claim there is confidence that a deal can be resurrected when the January window opens.

Arsenal had bid £92m for the winger on deadline day after agreeing to sell Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City.

Atletico want Costa

10.00: Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo hopes to sign Diego Costa - and many others in January.

Atletico were under transfer embargo during the summer but can buy players again in January.

Costa tried to force a move during the summer after refusing to return to London. He would have had to loaned out or sit on the sidelines for six months.

But Cerezo says he wants his man when the window reopens.

"We cannot sign anyone until January, hopefully by then Costa and many other will come," Cerezo said.

Costa is unlikely to play for Chelsea again but has been registered in their squad for the Premier League.

Janssen heading out

09:45: Fenerbahce have reached an agreement to sign Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen on loan.

He has flown out to Turkey to complete the deal.

”Our club has agreed a loan deal in principle for Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur and Holland national team striker Vincent Janssen," read a Fenerbahce statement.

"The 23-year-old striker will arrive at Istanbul Ataturk Airport at 12.30pm today and negotiations will continue in Istanbul."

Hamsik dreaming

09.30: Marek Hamsik has admitted he would find it hard to turn down Manchester United.

Hamsik, the Napoli star, was linked with Premier League moves in recent years.

But he’s gone off the radar a bit and wasn’t mentioned in relation to any English club this year.

However he appears to still consider a move to England, Spain or Germany a dream.

Asked about whether a move to a big club like Manchester United, Bayern Munich or Barcelona would appeal to him, Hamsik told German magazine Kicker: “That’s hard to say. It would surely be the hardest decision in my career.

"Maybe everyone wants to play at these clubs, but I can’t answer that."
