Liverpool team news: Jurgen Klopp rules Philippe Coutinho out of Man City clash

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp confirms Philippe Coutinho will NOT play against Manchester City.

Goater: Klopp is right to not pick Coutinho for City clash

Coutinho featured for Brazil during the international break and the national team doctor claimed the 25-year-old was suffering from stress not injury.

The midfield playmaker rejoined training on Thursday with his Liverpool team-mates.

But Klopp has decided to leave him out of the squad he takes to the Etihad due to Coutinho not being able to train properly for three weeks prior.

He said: "I had to make a decision, we now have 7 games in the next 3 weeks.

Coutinho has been left out of Liverpool squad for tomorrow's match against Manchester City

"There will never be time to train and we had this conversation before he went to Brazil he couldn’t train for around about 3 weeks. So that means now we have to now prepare him for the rest of the season, which is difficult with our fixtures and our schedule.

"So I decided to leave him out for City. We can use this four/five days for real and proper training.

"We got the numbers from the Brazilian FA around the intensity of training which was all okay. But he played twice for 15/20 minutes.

"He could have played 15/20 minutes for us again in the City game, maybe longer, but I think it makes sense. By the way he agreed completely and it was a good conversation."
