Liverpool signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain wants to play in the centre of midfield

Liverpool bought Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal in a £40million deadline day deal.

The England international chose a move to Anfield over an offer from Chelsea as he wants to play in the middle of midfield.

He was facing a season either on the flank or a wing-back at Arsenal or Chelsea.

But when asked what his plans for Oxlade-Chamberlain were heading into tomorrow’s 12.30pm clash at City, Klopp suggested he is not guaranteed a start in central midfield.

“(He can play) a few positions,” Klopp said.

“He is a very good football player. He is good in small spaces. Really good in big spaces. A good dribbler. A good passer.

“We want to have him on the pitch as often as possible.

“He fits really well in different line-ups.

“In the system we play at the moment he can play in four positions.”

Liverpool have won two and drawn one from three Premier League games so far this season.

Klopp also confirmed Philippe Coutinho would not play for the side at the Etihad.
