MANCHESTER UNITED goalkeeper David de Gea still has a desire to play for Real Madrid at some point during his career.

That is the opinion of Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

De Gea has been a long-term target of Real Madrid and came close to joining them in the summer of 2015.

The Spain No 1 has not hid his wish to play for the back-to-back Champions League winners, despite coming through the academy at their city rivals Atletico Madrid.

Reports have surfaced in the last few days claiming De Gea recently told international team-mate and Real centre-back Sergio Ramos he wanted to move to the Bernabeu.

Balague could not confirm those rumours but claims David de Gea has told Spain team-mates of his intentions to join Zinedine Zidane’s side during previous international breaks.

At 26, Dea Gea is just entering his prime years and Balague reckons he will get his dream move one day.

When asked if Real have ended their interest in De Gea for the time being, Balague said: "They have now.

“A Bola, Portuguese newspaper, Mendes came out with the story that De Gea spoke to Ramos while on international duty and said ‘get me to Real Madrid’.

“In the past he had said to Spanish internationals I’m going to Real Madrid.

“It didn’t happen then, I think he still wants to go, maybe one day.”

De Gea is yet to concede a goal in the Premier League this season, with Manchester United facing a trip to Stoke tomorrow evening (5.30pm).

A win over Mark Hughes' side will make it four from four and will keep them at the top of the Premier League table.
