The Spaniard had hoped to travel with the squad but that has proved impossible.

Benitez as endured a mixed start to life back in the Premier League with Newcastle and is seeking three points at Swansea today.

The clash kicks off at 4pm with the Magpies looking for a second win on the bounce after their 3-0 triumph over West Ham before the international break.

He went under the knife to remove an infection from a hernia wound.
