Barcelona News: Neymar quit Barcelona for PSG in a £200m transfer

Neymar shocked the football world by leaving Barcelona for PSG in a stunning £200million transfer last month.

Neymar played with arguably the best player in the world in Lionel Messi at the Nou Camp, as well as stars like Luis Suarez, Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique.

The Brazilian superstar claimed he joined PSG for the “challenge” and the move was “not about money”, despite reportedly earning a staggering £537,000 a week at the Parc des Princes.

But Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has questioned exactly why Neymar swapped Barcelona for Paris.

"Neymar never expressed exactly in his statement the reasons of his move, because there is always a huge desire for the players to play with the best players," Wenger told beIN SPORTS.

"He decided to go the other way, so that is for financial reasons, or for reasons that he thinks Paris Saint-Germain is tomorrow's club and will take over from Real Madrid and Barcelona, or for individual reasons, such as maybe he wants to become the player that the team turns to, and to be acknowledged as the best player in the world."

After completing his protracted move in August, Neymar said: “I wanted something bigger, a bigger challenge. This was about ambition.

“My heart told me it was time to sign for Paris Saint-Germain.

“It was the right time to leave Barcelona. I was never motivated by money.

“I thought above all else about the happiness of my family, regardless of money. I’m really sad some people think this is the case.”
