Man Utd News: Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller admits he considered Old Trafford transfer

BAYERN MUNICH striker Thomas Muller has admitted he contemplated a move to Manchester United two years ago.

Manchester United were heavily linked with a move for Bayern forward Muller during Louis van Gaal’s time in charge.

The Dutchman gave Muller his Bayern debut when in the Allianz Arena hotseat and the 27-year-old has since established himself as one of the best players in world football.

A move to Manchester United failed to materialise in 2015 when talk was at its paramount.

And the Germany international has revealed he did think about linking up with Van Gaal once again - but Bayern’s support was enough for him to stay put.

"There was a stage when the subject arose two years ago when I considered it, but then the club immediately backed me and I was told I belong here,” he told German magazine Kicker.

"I didn't have to think about it a great deal after Bayern said we are counting on you and that you are an important man for us."

United were short on striking options two years ago.

Van Gaal opted not to take Radamel Falcao on loan with the Colombia international scoring just four goals during his brief stint with the Red Devils.

And Robin van Persie was also allowed to depart.

Their desperation saw them shell out a huge £36million on Anthony Martial, who was a relatively unknown quantity over at Monaco.

But, though the France international has shown glimpses of the tremendous ability he possesses, club hero Louis Saha thinks he must work harder to be more like former United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

“They [Martial and Marcus Rashford] are hugely talented players – for sure,” Saha told the Metro.

“If you ask me honestly then they have a long way to go to catch players like Rooney and Ronaldo.

“Cristiano is an animal, I’ve never seen anyone like him.

“They (Rashford and Martial) need to work twice as hard. You need to combine talent with working harder than anyone else. Nobody worked harder than Wazza on the field.

“Those two players maintained that quality because they worked hard every single season.

“I want to see that with Martial. The talent he has is amazing but he needs to work harder”
