ROY HODGSON is the smart appointment for Crystal Palace following Frank de Boer’s sacking.

Crystal Palace have sacked Frank de Boer

That is according to Danny Murphy, who played under Hodgson at Fulham during his playing days.

Hodgson, 70, is the favourite to replace De Boer after the Dutchman was sacked today.

Palace have lost all four of their league games this season without scoring a goal.

And Murphy reckons Hodgson is the man to turn the ship around.

“He’s a very safe pair of hands,” Murphy told talkSPORT.

“He’ll be really well organised. It’s a very astute appointment.

“You’re not going to get free-flowing, attacking football from Roy with the players who aren’t capable of doing it, dominating possession.

“But he will quickly work out their strengths, weaknesses and play to them.

“What he did at Fulham and West Brom was remarkable. Yes the Liverpool year was awful for him but there was lots of mitigating factors there.

“People will jump on the England bandwagon and say because he failed there he’s useless, Steve McClaren is useless because he failed with England.

“But those two have had tremendous success at club level.

“He is a very safe pair of hands.”
